About me

I specialize in working with clients who experience depression, anxiety, stress, life transitions, complex trauma and PTSD, childhood sexual abuse, bullying, and neglect, religious trauma and spiritual transitions. I use EMDR, IFS, Ego States, and Mindful Self-Compassion along with somatic interventions to help clients move towards a more integrated self.

When difficulties arise in life, it can be hard to navigate without support. Whether you are dealing with stress, trauma, grief, mental health, relationship issues, or wanting to set life goals, choosing to start therapy can be a great step towards finding your way. It is my hope that in our sessions we can establish a therapeutic relationship founded on trust, acceptance, and respect. Once this has been established, clients can safely explore life experiences, beliefs, and fears that contribute to negative emotions and sensations that interfere with day-to-day functioning and life satisfaction.

Hi! My name is Tawny George and I'm an LPCC in Erie, Colorado. I obtained my Graduate Degree in Counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN in 2010. During grad school, I facilitated 12-step support, addiction, and recovery groups with Restore Ministries in Nashville, helping individuals overcome negative behavior and thought patterns. I feel drawn to work with individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, shame, identity, LGBTQIA+ and sexuality issues, relationship or family conflict, emotional/stress regulation, abuse victims, and religious/spiritual trauma and abuse victims. I believe in the importance of a mind and body integrated approach to mental health and use modalities that support this.

Like so many others, it was my own experience with mental health that inevitably led me to want to work in the counseling field. As I lived out my own mental health journey, I found I was drawn to understand both the psychological and physiological sides to the conflicts we face. I've always empathically related to others and sincerely long to know their experiences, stories, and struggles and to see them succeed. My hope is that I can come alongside my clients and walk with them as they unburden themselves from unnecessary baggage and move closer to living the lives they imagine. If you have any questions about my methods or would like to schedule a free consultation, please get in touch today.

Using an integrative approach that blends research-based cognitive and somatic treatments with mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion, I specialize in helping people identify and address the blocks that keep them from achieving what they envision in their lives. By gently addressing coping issues that contribute to stress, anxiety, depression, and other unpleasant sensations, even a few counseling sessions can help reduce negative thoughts and create changes that lead to a happier and healthier experience. As issues diminish, clients can go on to achieve their personal goals without the weight of unnecessary baggage that may have been tagging along.

Using a blend of Mindful Self-Compassion, Somatic Psychology, EMDR, IFS (Internal Family Systems), and other traditional therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I take pride in seeing clients prevail over issues that have deterred their progress for years. I am trauma-informed and use effective tools to gently help you address past and present traumas in order to overcome their negative impact on your life. I love working with individuals to change and counteract the negative messaging they've received and, as a result, seeing a client's self-worth and self-acceptance increase exponentially. This messaging can come from negative early childhood experiences, attachment issues, harmful religious systems, past or present unhealthy relationships, and society and culture. As people are able to recognize and identify their pain and begin to have a conversation with it, rather than isolating it away, they are able to begin the journey towards health and wholeness they so deeply deserve.
