About me

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with nearly 20 years of experience working with adults, teens, children, families and couples on a range of issues including anxiety, grief, trauma and relationship challenges. I bring empathy, passion, dedication, expertise and a sense of humor to the therapy process.

We all struggle at times, whether we are experiencing stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward in our lives. Facing life’s difficulties can feel frustrating, overwhelming and exhausting. Therapy is a supportive, non-judgmental space to share your emotional struggles, pain and stress. Together, we can create effective coping strategies, discover and develop your existing sources of strength and joy, and allow you to more fully enjoy life.

Experience
For the past 12 years, my therapy practice has focused on helping clients of all ages on a range of issues including relationships, grief and loss, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem, anxiety and shame. I have also supported clients struggling with depression, disordered eating, stress related to toxic work or family environments, divorce, medical trauma and parenting. Many of my clients are survivors of physical, sexual and/or narcissistic abuse. These painful experiences require courage and compassion to heal from.

In addition to private practice, I have worked in several mental health settings including as a school counselor, substance abuse counselor for teens, grief counselor and in home family therapist. I have worked extensively with immigrant, minority and refugee populations and have a deep understanding of the devastating effect that oppressive systems have on mental health.

Individual Therapy
I use a collaborative approach, drawing from a variety of therapeutic methods as well as your feedback to find what resonates best with you and best helps you accomplish your goals.   These methods include attachment theory, mindfulness, talk therapy, trauma informed therapy, EMDR, IFS, and Sandplay. I also offer a variety of formats for therapy, including in-person, virtual and phone appointments.

Therapy looks a little different for each client. I will meet you where you are, provide you with options, education and strategies for healing, self-acceptance and empowerment. Together we can find your path to healthy self-expression and happiness.

Every person has the ability to grow, heal, and thrive. Suffering can lead us to lose hope or to believe that we are broken or damaged.  This is untrue! Our true nature and potential may seem absent or hidden but it is there and it cannot be destroyed.  By uncovering and rediscovering our strengths and abilities, we can overcome challenges, find meaning and purpose, and live more fulfilling lives.  Through the self-discovery process we can learn to find understanding and compassion for even the most feared and hated parts of ourselves.  We can heal from our past and move forward.   We can experience ourselves and the world differently going forward.

Couples Therapy
Relationships are challenging! In couples therapy, we can develop effective communication tools and skills as well as explore the issues that keep you and your partner feeling stuck, retraumatized, unseen, disastisfied, resentful or distant. We can increase emotional understanding and intimacy, facilitate openness and achieve clarity and understanding of you, your partner and your relationship.

You are Not Alone
If you are going through a rough time, please know you do not have to go through it alone!  I will listen to you, provide support and help you discover and put into practice the solutions that work for you.  Together we can create the tools you need to cope with life's difficulties, achieve your goals and heal from the past so that you can move forward.
