Riley Koren, LPC

I support traumatized adults in coming home to the safety of their bodies in the present moment.

Riley has been working as a massage therapist for 12 years, and began studying psychotherapy after observing the many ways in which emotional trauma lodges itself in the physical body. Riley received her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and completed her internship at a mindfulness-based practice where she counseled adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and trauma. She then spent a year providing in-home counseling services based in Structural Family Therapy to children and families in the Charlottesville area through Counseling Alliance of Virginia.

In her therapy sessions, Riley uses mindfulness techniques, Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and a compassionate curiosity to support people in increasing their self-awareness and self-acceptance. She views individuals within the context of their family systems and within the larger context of their various cultural groups and identities. Riley's work is relational in nature, and all of her therapy grows from a foundation of strong mutual trust. Her therapeutic practice is rooted in the understanding that we all have the capacity to find healing within ourselves, if we are honest and if we are willing to look.
