About me
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with concentration in trauma treatment
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, National Certified Counselor, and a Certified Trauma Professional. I am a member of the American Counseling Association, the North Carolina Counseling Association, and the National Career Development Association. I completed Master’s and Specialist’s degrees in Counseling and Human Systems in 2008 and I am currently a doctoral student working towards my PhD in counseling.
My doctoral research and practice concentration centers around trauma recovery, specifically interpersonal and gender violence.
COUNSELING APPROACH:
While my therapeutic approaches and modalities are integrative and largely determined by the needs of the individual, I gravitate towards holistic, person-centered therapies. This includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), humanistic psychology, relational-cultural therapy, and somatic psychology. All approaches I employ are grounded in being trauma-informed and social justice minded.
I view therapy as a partnership, where the individual is the expert in their own life and the counselor supports them on their path to optimal well-being. I believe each person has strengths and the capability to change their lives for the better. I look forward to empowering those I work with in their unique journeys!
