About me
As humans, we expend a considerable amount of energy to accommodate the comfort of others while avoiding the authenticity, health, and wellness of ourselves. Clients I work with have difficult experiences, which shape how they see themselves, how they live, and often struggle to see how their life and wellness can be better. The pathway to improved mental health and wellness can be difficult to traverse on one’s own.
I believe an essential part of providing counseling is that a person wants to be heard and understood first, encouraged and guided second. Creating a safe and inviting therapy environment which promotes the ability to be heard and understood is essential. Often times, people grow hesitant to face uncomfortable memories, thoughts, and experiences. A safe and inviting environment filled with support, patience, empathy, and void of judgement provides the opportunity to challenge discomfort and to push through memories and experiences.
I employ person-centered therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy as my foundations for working with a person. In doing so solutions and adaptations can be discovered that you can effectively use for yourself to improve moving forward. The reward is you learn the process of exploration, reflection, problem-solving, and implementation which you can then use to address other life situations, as they arise.
I am available for appointments at the Grinnell and Williamsburg Iowa offices.
