About me
In Carl Jung’s famous words: “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” My name is Monika K. Herrera, I am a licensed psychologist and I believe these are words to live by. In today’s world, it might seem impossible to feel ‘in control’ of our surroundings. From toxic workplaces to poor health of ourselves or those closest to us, coping with and controlling problems in what’s supposed to be modern society can feel hopeless. That is why I make it my everyday mission to put attention away from the uncontrollable external and instead focusing it inward, somewhere it will make a change. Make no mistake, while progress is rooted in the therapeutic art of conversation, sessions with me are based on methods and therapies PROVEN to make a long-lasting difference. If you are ready to take the next step forward or are looking for someone to have a conversation about what that step might be, schedule a consultation.
Dr. Monika K. Herrera is a licensed NY and NJ psychologist proficient in English, Polish and Spanish. Concurrent with her work in clinical practice, she has been an Independent Consulting Psychologist performing psychological evaluations requested by the courts for youths in care of detention services at Children's Village. Dr. Herrera specializes in working with people across the lifespan, from childhood through older adulthood. She has experience working with patients with a wide range of conditions including neurodevelopmental disorders, movement disorders, cognitive impairment, neurodegenerative disorders, stroke, complex medical diagnoses, traumatic brain injury (TBI), epilepsy, behavioral disorders and psychological/ psychiatric disorders. Dr. Herrera is a Certified Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM), Certified Dementia Care Specialist (ECDCS) Certified Dialectical Therapy Specialist (C-DBT), and ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider ( ADHD- CCSP). Her research interests center around assessment and providing best opportunities for education of bilingual children.
Dr. Herrera’s diverse background has given her a richness of perspective and has allowed her to acquire a broad range of skills and knowledge. Her varied experiences have bred an acute awareness of our essential commonality as human beings, an appreciation for the fundamental resilience and will to wellness within us, and a deep respect for the extraordinary resilience and courage that is so often found in seemingly ordinary places.
