About me
Attention Women: Do you feel unmotivated, hopeless, exhausted, and overwhelmed? Do you struggle to face the day? Do you feel constantly worried, or drained and lifeless? Do you have a pervasive sense of "I'm not good enough?" I can help you. You can be free from emotional pain and live a happier, fuller life. I am passionate about giving you many effective, tailored tools to take charge of your life and feel peace.
The majority of my clients have symptoms of anxiety and depression, and histories of complex trauma (or experiences that feel really bad to them). My goal is to empower each client to find the unique and tailored methods that work for them. I use a large variety of tool sets and skills, from books and handouts, to in-session experiences, to experimenting with ideas you might have. Healing starts within, and I’m with you every step of the way, showing and helping you use those tools.
While I use many tools, my four favorites are: working with internal thoughts and feelings, reprocessing trauma, renegotiating past relationships, and integrating new boundaries and communication skills. I find these four areas create holistic healing and growth in my clients. Due to overwhelming need from my clients, I have received specialized training in the specific areas of complex trauma, binge eating, narcissistic abuse, and religious abuse. I also love to recommend books to supplement your work!
Every therapist is a good listener. And that is the single most important thing for a therapist to be! But for many clients, that isn't enough. For me, being an excellent therapist means helping you learn the skills and gain the tools and find the answers you need to leave your past behind, and create a present and future you love. I believe in helping you find your own personal power and strength, maybe in a way you have never experienced before. I believe in being transparent in the process, letting you know where we're going and how we're getting there. I also occasionally incorporate the use of my horses (which are near my office) in our work together!
Check out my website (mwalkerlmft.com/d-a), or call for a free 20 minute consultation. I would love to get to know you and see if we are a good fit. If not, I will point you in the direction to find someone who is the right fit for you. Also see my website for equestrians at mwalkerlmft.com/equestrian.
My story:
When I was in my early twenties I started struggling with depression and anxiety. I had no idea what resources were available to me, how to find them, or how to use them. Should I see a psychiatrist? A psychologist? A therapist? Should I take medication? What options were available to me?
Over the next twelve years, my depression and anxiety got much, much worse. I never could find a therapist that was helpful to me. Eventually, in my desperation, I decided I needed to get a master’s degree and become the therapist for myself that I couldn't find in anyone else.
As it turns out, there are a HUGE amount of mental health resources available to most of us, but the average person doesn’t know where to begin to find them or how to use them. And that’s where I come in: You don't need to get a master's degree and work in the field for years and read hundreds of books, because I have done that for you and I am here to share what I have learned.
I have an excellent understanding of how to find and use the puzzle pieces to put your emotional and mental health back together. I am eager to share my toolkit with you!
