About me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is experienced working with children through adults (with a soft spot for tweens and young adults). I have specialty training in working with autism and the LGBTQIA+ community.
My name is Megan (or “Ms. MAC” to many of my younger clients), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of clinical experience and 8 years of experience as a school social worker. l have worked with students in outpatient therapy, public schools, and public and private day schools (Special Education placements). I have extensive experience with Special Education, IEPs and 504 Plans. I have worked primarily with children, adolescents, and young adults, particularly with middle schoolers, though I also work with adults. I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults with high-functioning autism, and young members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I also treat depression, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and ADHD/executive functioning deficits.
I believe each client is the expert in their lived experience. I work to create a culturally informed and welcoming space where they can share their journey, challenges, and hopes. I use a strengths-based approach, and eclectic treatment modality, to help each client find a personalized path to their goals. I draw heavily from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Somatic Experiencing, attachment theory, mindfulness, and self-compassion. When working with children and adolescents, I collaborate with parents and caregivers where appropriate, while maintaining a confidential space for my younger clients.
I earned my Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and my undergraduate degree from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. I am more than half-way through completing my multi-year training in Somatic Experiencing. This trauma-informed treatment method focuses on calming overactive nervous systems and building resiliency. I am in ongoing training to learn more about the conditions I work with, and how to become an ever-better ally for my clients and community.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, watching movies, and playing board games. I enjoy meditation in theory, and I'm working to make more time for it in practice. I got a late start learning to cook, but I'm really trying to get better at it.
