Marisol Thurman, LCSW

I have over 20 years of experience providing services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

I received my Masters degree from Columbia University where I was awarded the Student of the Year Award by the New York Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. I am fortunate to have had a rewarding career that has exposed me to hundreds of stories of loss, struggle and victory. Believing in the powerful influence of the family unit as a defining factor in an individual’s life, I pursued a 3-year post-graduate certificate in Family Therapy. Being a trained Family Therapist does not limit my work to families. Instead, it allows me to use a family systems lens to understand my clients within their historical and current family context.
I have also developed expertise in evidence-based clinical interventions that complement my work and give my clients additional tools. I am certified as a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and use CBT and DBT techniques to help clients achieve lasting and impactful emotional and behavioral shifts. In addition, I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, a technique widely utilized as a catalyst to guide individuals towards higher motivation to change unwanted behaviors.
