About me
Counseling Building Blocks Help partners with clients in understanding their emotional and behavioral struggles and helping them build a roadmap back to a regulated and satisfying life. Counseling Building Blocks Help uses a trauma informed approach through the use of EMDR, TF-CBT, DBT, Sandtray, Theraplay, Child-Centered Play, Bibliotherapy, Person-Centered, and Parent-Child Relationship Therapies. These approaches offer clients the chance to safely explore their life experiences and how to cope with the world around them while building internal regulation and powerful interpersonal relationships.
Larry is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Secondary Education Teacher. He completed his Bachelor’s in Secondary Education with a dual major in Speech Communication and Psychology at Eastern Michigan University in 2003. He completed his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Walden University in 2013. He completed his counseling internship at a sexual abuse center and a private alternative school. Larry is trained in Clinical Trauma Therapy (CCTPI), TF-CBT, DBT, EMDR, Sandtray, Child-Centered Play, Theraplay, Filia-Play, and Co-Parenting training.
Since 2004, Larry has provided mental health services as a direct care worker, behavioral health specialist, therapist, clinical supervisor, and clinical director within Psychiatric Residential facilities, Group Homes, Partial Hospitalizations, Intensive Outpatient, Intensive In-home, and Outpatient Counseling services. Larry was also an English Teacher who worked with both advanced and at-risk populations
Larry's preferred modality with children is play therapy, Sandtray, and bibliotherapy. Larry's preferred method with adolescents and adults is a combination of EMDR, DBT, CBT, Sand Tray, and Person-Centered Therapy. Larry's preferred method in addressing child-parent relationships is Theraplay, Filial Play, family therapy, and parent coaching. Larry has specialized in helping youth and adults suffering from trauma rebuild their life stories. Larry believes in meeting clients where they are in their life, setting aside blame, and focusing on problem solving and reconnecting to healthy relationships.
