About me

I have over twelve years of providing compassionate and caring psychotherapy to children, teens, and adults. I specialize in self-injury and trauma work.

Everyone has times in their lives when stress seems overwhelming, when ways that we use to cope just aren't working anymore, or are even making the situation worse. You might be sad, anxious, hurting yourself, isolating, or overeating and want to change. Counseling can help you to move forward at times when you feel stuck, can help you to develop new coping skills and tools to manage life's challenges, and rediscover the strength inside you. It provides an accepting, non-judgmental, confidential environment, and a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings with a caring, compassionate listener.

I graduated from Oakland University in 2009 with a Masters degree in Counseling and a specialization in Mental Health Counseling. I've taken additional training including obtaining certification as an advanced drug and alcohol counselor and in clinical supervision. I have also attended workshops and conferences on working with trauma, particularly using the body's natural instincts to heal. My basic framework for treatment is psychodynamic counseling, although I draw from other theories and methodologies as appropriate. I focus on your strengths: the tools, support, and positive factors that have helped you get this far. No matter how overwhelming life seems, you are more than the sum of your problems. I take an integrative approach that considers you as a whole person: mind, emotions, body, and spirit.

My specializations include anxiety, depression, trauma, self-injury ("cutting"), eating disorders, abuse survivors, and LGBT issues, including self-acceptance, coming out, spirituality and wellness. I can also provide substance use evaluations and addictions counseling, as well as clinical supervision. I love working with children and youth, especially teens and young adults. I also have experience working with other mental health professionals to support their own wellness and self-care. My integrative approach includes a trauma lens, and draws from psychodynamic, internal family systems, mindfulness based cognitive therapy and motivational interviewing theories in order to best help each client. This means that the work we do together will be tailored to meet your individual needs and goals. Many of my clients have commented on how quickly I am able to put them at their ease, and how positive their process of changing has been.

I am currently practicing primarily through telehealth, although I have the option of in-office sessions when COVID numbers are low enough for this to be safe. My caseload is currently completely full for evening appointments, and very limited for daytime slots, but I can either add your name to my waitlist, or refer you to one of my colleagues at Transcendence Behavioral Health, all of whom are exceptional clinicians.
