Healing Focus Counseling is a small group of therapists that have been working together for several years and decided to started our out patient practice. We are thrilled that we have taken all that we have learned and all our passions to build this healing business. We offer evidence based mental health therapies and access to other healing methods. Julie Mathewson, MSW, LCSW,, EMDR trained

Julie started out her career working as a crisis worker in children’s teen crisis centers. These were crisis centers for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services. This encouraged her to pursue a long-term career which has included working with children, teens, and adults. She has worked extensively in infant adoption. This included working with birth mother’s and siblings at a very low time. It also included working with adoptive families as they looked forward to becoming a family. She was trained at the Grief Recovery Center and continues to use that education often with her clients. She has helped many teens and adults discover how to find peace and move forward in their lives. A few years of working with addiction and dual diagnosis was challenging and rewarding as some clients found success and others succumbed to their disease. She currently works with teens and their families as they learn to use their core values to overcome mental health and addiction issues as well as change their thinking patterns through therapeutic interventions and psycho education. She considers herself as a life-long learner as she continues to practice, EMDR, trauma therapy, play therapy, and attend more than twice the required continuing education credits.

Julie enjoys the outdoors, nature, camping, going for long walks in the mountains and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys doing arts and crafts with her clients and on her own as a therapeutic activity.

Wendy Reimann
MSW, LCSW, EMDR Certified, ASUDC Certified

Wendy has a passion for working with adolescence and adults using evidence-based therapies to help them maximize their talents and build positive coping skills. She provides individual and group therapy processing and psychoeducation to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and mental health problems associated with depression, trauma, attachment, bi-polar and anxiety disorders, as well problems in family relationships with parenting, family balance, divorce, grief and loss. Wendy has volunteered time working as a Mentor and Intensive Outpatient group facilitator. She has been involved in conducting workshops to community and religious based groups on such topics as parenting and various aspects of teen and adult mental health. Her greatest passion is her family which includes her husband, children, and grandchildren, traveling, reading, laughing, and creating memories.

Rick Reimann
MSW, CSW, ASUDC

Rick has a passion for mentoring adolescence and adults with diagnosed disorders. He helps clients to accomplish therapeutic assignments and facilitates group therapy processing and psychoeducation to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. He has a natural talent with helping individuals work through their problems and recognize their roll in governing their lives. He also works to assist in offering community resources for clients in need and has a vast history of volunteer and professional work through organizations such as Utah Foster Care, National Alliance of Mental Illness, Urban Indian Center, and Co-Director and board member of K.O.P.P.I.R. (Kids of Parents and People in Recovery). In addition to his work as a therapist, Rick is a licensed general contractor in the state of Utah and California. He likes working with his hands creating and building and can bring this passion and skill to clients as he teaches the value of hard work. His greatest passion is his family which includes his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoys traveling, weekend get-a ways, and the Hallmark channel.

Desiree Arave
Certified Reiki Master Teacher, Crystal Therapy Healer, Intuitive Energy Healing Light Worker

Desiree’s passion is helping others transform their darkness into pure loving light. She does this by peacefully and intuitively working with many different energetic healing modalities including channeling Reiki life force energy, crystal therapy, sound baths, aroma therapy, mediation, visualization and more. These therapies release trapped or stagnate energy in the body, clear and balance the chakras, and give her clients a safe space for their body to release all that no longer serves them, and call in all that truly inspires their higher self. As well as aids them in raising their vibration, bringing balance, joy, perspective, and ultimately achieving a state of flow, relaxation and peace to their mind, body, spirit and soul. Guiding them to become more heart centered, compassionate, learn the art of self-love, self-forgiveness and gratitude, which in turn begins to heal the self, their loved ones, and the collective as a whole. Her gift is to gently aid her clients in living a more fulfilled and balanced life by helping them to embrace and harness their own beautiful internal intelligence and life force energy “chi” from within.

Carol Arnez, Certified Grief Educator

Carol is an accountant by trade but her real passion is in helping others. She started her first nonprofit in Idaho to help people suffering with Fibromyalgia and has been passionate about helping others ever since. She has facilitated support groups for people with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Arthritis; volunteered with the Bradley Center for Grieving Children by helping children process grief through play. When her husband of 37 years died from a chronic illness, she moved forward in her grief towards a new life purpose of help others who are also suffering with the pain from loss.

Carol is a certified Grief Educator through David Kessler, a world renown grief expert and author. She has also been trained by Paul Denniston, creator of Grief Yoga, as a Grief Movement Guide using yoga movements, breath, and sound to help individuals to release pain and struggle from their bodies. Carol currently facilitates a peer-to-peer Grief Chat group for widows and is looking forward to starting more groups in the future.

In her time off she enjoys creating and selling her handcrafted Alta Moon Jewelry, spending time with friends, learning new things, and curling up with a good book with her two cats, Sunny and Stripes.
