About me

I am an elder experienced therapist who loves working with individuals on a deep level. I work with ages 18 through the lifespan ,

MY QUALIFICATIONS
I am licensed by Virginia as a Professional Counselor. I hold a BA and MA from Ohio State University in
Psychology. I also have a Ph.D. from Florida State University in Higher Education. I have worked as a counselor either full or part-time since 1971. I have been licensed in the State of Virginia since 1991. I taught psychology full time at Germanna Community College and provide counseling privately on a part-time basis. I have worked with individuals, couples, groups, and families with a variety of vocational, educational, and personal concerns. I am not qualified to supervise the administration of medicines. My training and experience provide me with the skills to work with people who have concerns about who they are, their goals in life, and how to achieve these
goals. I have studied stress management, nutrition, and health and have completed level two training for Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). I approach counseling from a holistic perspective.
HOW I VIEW THE COUNSELING PROCESS
Counseling is a procedure used for personal growth and development. This means that it is a process of
learning. A person may want or need to learn how to manage time, to improve communication with others, to effectively use emotions such as anger, fear, and depression.
The steps involved in counseling are several. First, I need to get to know you and for you to know me. A sense of trust is essential since counseling needs openness and honesty. My task here is to listen to you, to ask and answer questions that will promote understanding and trust. Everything said will be confidential. A code ofethics prevents me from discussing or releasing information about you without your written consent and I will not transfer information electronically. However, if you are in imminent danger to yourself or to others, if child abuse has occurred, or if I receive a subpoena for the records; then I am legally bound to report such information to the appropriate person or agency.
The next step in counseling involves setting goals and objectives together. We will
develop a plan, which will be evaluated and revised as necessary. Such a plan may require various actions on your part (such as keeping records of behaviors, obtaining information, and practicing skills you want to develop). The final step in counseling is evaluating progress made toward your goals and determining when counseling is no longer necessary or beneficial to you.
In return for a fee of $60 per session, I agree to provide counseling services for you. The sessions last fifty minutes a session. I will bill you at the end of the month for that month's sessions and payment is due within 30 days from receipt of the bill. In the event you are not able to keep an appointment, I would like to be notified as soon as possible. Do not wait until the last minute to cancel an appointment unless it is unavoidable. If you do not notify me within a reasonable amount of time for a cancellation, you will be billed for the session. In cas e of an emergency call 911.

I encourage you to discuss with me any questions or concerns you have about the counseling process I have described here.
