About me

I truly believe that our internalized model of safety begins when we're just a child. Dr. Sue Johnson shares, "All of us, from cradle to grave, are happiest when life is organized as a series of excursions, long or short, from the secure base provided by our attachment figure(s)." I work with individuals and couples who have struggled to feel safe and secure in their most valuable relationships. For many of them, understanding how to connect to themselves personally, or with a loved one, is difficult terrain to navigate. I work with issues around experiences with anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or neglect.

I came a long way, from North Carolina to Washington State in hopes to rebuild a life and set roots. Although that journey brought about many road bumps and unexpected twists and turns, I found something that really conveyed how treacherous trauma can be when you grow up in an insecure emotional environment. It taught me about the barriers that emotional neglect and consistent patterns of abuse create. When I learned about Emotionally Focused Therapy, I began to unravel some of my own life patterns and discovered the beauty of understanding what lies beneath our responses within ourselves, the people, and the world around us.

I value the research behind the most successful model of couple therapy – Emotionally Focused Therapy. By creating a safe space to process difficult emotions, I work with individuals or couples who are looking to navigate emotional struggles that create further disconnect and isolation in their lives.

“We can remain a mere speck of dust, resting on the edge of a windowsill, left untouched.” I learned a great deal from stepping outside of the patterns that left me dealing with emotions on my own. Taking that step to pursue counseling can be met with resistance from fear or worry. I assure you, my goal is to walk the journey with you.
