About me
I'm Beth - Happy to meet you!! I've worked for more than 20 years as a therapist treating depression, anxiety, problem perfectionism, and complex trauma and it has been a gift every year to partner with folks as they grow in new directions.
I'm licensed as a professional counselor (LPC) in the state of New Jersey and my practice, SEED Services: Partners for Counseling & Wellness is devoted to building healthy individuals, families and communities. I have grown to value and believe that we cannot separate our mental health from our physical, social, and spiritual health. I find that creating a sense of connection, both within ourselves and with others, is an essential element of wellbeing. I provide individual therapy for adults, as well as integrative mental health coaching, and consultation for newly licensed clinicians seeking supervision. I am also joined in my practice by couples therapist, QuinnShauna Felder-Snipes, EdS, LAMFT and family and adolescent therapist, Katie Drake, LAMFT. QuinnShauna and Katie bring their passion and talent for working with couples, families and individuals, offering counseling for both adults and adolescents.
Most recently, I have completed certification as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider (CMHIMP) and as a provider for the Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP). SSP is a listening based program developed from the work of Dr. Stephen Porges. It has been shown to improve autonomic regulation when there have been experiences of threat or trauma. Additionally, I have recently completed Tier 2 training for working with military service members and their families, and I look forward to welcoming you into my practice. Other experience has included teaching as an adjunct faculty member for The College of New Jersey, supervising clinical interns and new professionals, serving on the executive board of the New Jersey Counseling Association (NJCA), and volunteering as past president for the New Jersey Association for Multicultural Counseling (NJAMC).
I approach sessions from an integrative perspective and draw heavily from evidence based and evidence supported treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Behavioral Activation for depression, SSP, and most notably Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). CFT is a multimodal treatment approach that helps us to understand the habits of mind, body and behavior that block our sense of safeness and wellbeing. CFT defines compassion as encompassing 4 qualities: Courage, Wisdom, Strength and Care for Wellbeing. Contrary to some misperceptions about compassion, it isn't about being "warm and fuzzy" and not for the faint of heart! It requires the ability to both turn towards what is difficult or painful in our lives, and to take action toward resolution. Based on the expansive and growing body of research into the neuroscience of compassion, we will also work on building skills and strategies for managing difficult emotions, judgement and self-criticism, and for countering any patterns avoidance that have created problems for you. This research provides extensive evidence that compassion is both innate and a learned skill that can be used for improving relationships, health and mental health outcomes.
If you'd like to learn more or chat a bit about me, CFT or how the practice might be able to support you, please feel free to visit our website or reach out to schedule a phone chat. I'd be happy to talk further about your needs and our services!
