About me

My life mission has been to learn and understand the many ways in which our unconscious mind controls our lives, and just as importantly, what to do about it. This is why I focus on helping my clients to find approaches to change the way their own unconscious mind thinks.

It is important to understand that every person’s unconscious mind has developed and created mistaken and limiting beliefs about themselves which limit them from reaching their full and complete potential. This process seems to be universal and it begins in very early childhood.

For example, the research in Attachment Theory demonstrates very clearly that each child’s attachment status is fully established by 12 months of age. By that age, every child has developed either secure attachment or insecure attachment. More importantly, this research on Attachment Theory began nearly 50 years ago and it is recognized as being highly reliable by experts in the field.

People who have been fortunate enough to develop secure attachment find it much easier to feel safe in this world and to trust that other people can be relied on and care about them. On the other hand, those of us who have developed insecure attachment find life to be just the opposite. It is far more difficult for them to trust in other people and feel safe in their relationships. They very often have significant anxiety and depression, and have often experienced significant trauma in childhood, whether they remember that trauma or not.

It is also true that even those people who have secure attachment still have mistaken beliefs in their unconscious mind because, more than likely, no child grows up without being emotionally wounded. This emotional wounding is clearly part of the human condition. And, the fact is, some of us become far more wounded than others.

Many people want a therapist who guides them to set goals and who listens and helps them explore their past. These are just two of the various things I do to help my clients learn to change the thinking of their own unconscious mind.

I am also skilled in hypnotherapy. Through hypnotherapy it is often possible to speed up the process of correcting the mistaken and limiting beliefs that our unconscious mind has created about ourselves so that we can reach our full and complete potential.

As a mental health counselor and a consultant, people tell me that I am highly skilled in problem solving through psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, teaching, counseling, and most of all, by developing empathy through listening and understanding.

Two of the Keystone areas of psychology that I have studied extensively are Affect Theory and Attachment Theory (as it applies to adults).

Affect Theory explains the nine foundational human emotions that are wired into the human brain through the DNA and how these emotions affect our lives in the various combinations and intensities that they are capable of being expressed as.

We humans are emotional beings and emotions rule our lives. Since the unconscious mind controls the involuntary nervous system and the involuntary nervous system is what generates all emotions, then it follows that the negative beliefs in the unconscious mind and what they mean to each individual are responsible for the vast majority of emotional suffering that so many people experience.

The nine foundational human emotions are Joy, Excitement, Love, Startle, Anger, Fear, Shame, Distress and Disgust. All of these emotions can be experienced in various intensities from very low intensity, to extremely high intensity, and also in various combinations. For instance, fear can be experienced in intensities anywhere from very mild anxiety to being extremely terrified. Shame can be experienced as mild embarrassment, or full-blown humiliation and anywhere in between.

Attachment Theory explains how these mistaken beliefs get created in the unconscious mind through our experiences during the first 12 months of our lives as well as during the toddler and preschool stages that we all go through.

The research claims that approximately half of us adults in America have secure attachment and because of this find it easier to trust in ourselves and in other people, as well as in a Higher Power. However, the other half of us have one of the three forms of insecure attachment and find it much more difficult to trust and feel safe.

In addition to being licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I trained in hypnotherapy in the 1980s with Associate Trainers in Clinical Hypnosis, a highly regarded hypnosis training program founded by Dr. Anthony Gaito, LCMSW of Syosset, New York. I was certified by the National Society of Hypnotherapists both as a hypnotherapist and as a trainer in hypnotherapy.

I earned both my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston where I graduated Cum Laude. As a member of two national honor societies and a published author, I am a frequent public speaker. I have taught on the university level at Houston Baptist University and also at the Houston Community College.

I earned an honor that is merited by only a very few in my field. I was awarded the highly coveted Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor designation (CCMHC).The CCMHC is conferred by the National Board of Certified Counselors only after an extremely rigorous and exacting certification process. Since this certification process is so rigorous, it automatically includes the lower level certification of National Certified Counselor, NCC.

I currently have over 35 yrs. of clinical experience conducting and teaching hypnotherapy and I have hypnotized more than 25,000 people in my large group seminars in cities all across the nation.

Also, I have experience both in business management and as a management consultant. Lastly, I have been honored by inclusion in "Who's Who in the South & Southwest," "Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America" and "Who's Who in the World."
