Debra Stackman, PhD

I am an experienced clinical psychologist and specialize in trauma and PTSD. I also have a great deal of experience with treating depression, assertiveness issues, relationship issues and other anxiety disorders. I have enjoyed working with diverse populations for my entire career.

I have enjoyed working with clients from very diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious, and sexual orientation and identity backgrounds for over 25 years. I prize establishing respectful, trusting, and collaborative relationships with my clients as this is key in helping them achieve their goals in treatment. It is my goal for my clients to leave therapy with new skills, new understanding, a sense of empowerment, or having worked through a difficult experience. I very much enjoy witnessing my clients growing, feeling empowered, healing from difficult experiences, or experience a reduction in symptoms.

I have extensive training and experience in treating trauma and PTSD, and I currently work halftime at the Veterans Affairs in their outpatient PTSD Clinic treating Veterans with PTSD in addition to maintaining my private practice. I also have extensive training and experience in treating other types of anxiety, depression, assertiveness and relationship and cultural issues and have conducted groups for men to treat depression, PTSD, and anger management, and women to treat depression, assertiveness, and PTSD. I have served on a regional Cultural Competency Best Practices Committee for 10 years, served as an attending on an inpatient psychiatric unit, and triaged patients who presented themselves to the ER in psychiatric crisis.
