About me
I am a sex positive, bilingual, Spanish-speaking licensed clinical therapist with a PhD in Social Work. My focus is on women and gender issues including sex therapy, LGBTQIA issues, perinatal mood disorders and trauma. I have over fifteen years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples and groups.
I specialize in the treatment of women and gender issues including women’s mental health and LGBTQIA issues and sex therapy. These may include perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, problems with self-image and low self-esteem, and gender-based violence such as domestic violence and sexual violence. I also work with LGBTQIA issues including navigating coming out, family and personal relationships, and identity issues, gender fluidity and gender dysphoria. Discrimination in the form of sexism, racism, homophobia/transphobia, etc. causes real-life stress that impacts ones' mental health. I provide culturally sensitive treatment and support using a variety of evidenced-based and clinical approaches, as well as psycho-education, and trauma-informed therapy.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I recognize the widespread impact that traumatic events may have on an individual’s physical and mental health and well-being as well as the behavioral and emotional responses of survivors. Trauma may include the treatment of minorities, immigration and refugee issues and institutionalized racism and sexism. I strive to assist clients in recognizing their triggers and developing healthy coping mechanisms, learning techniques for setting boundaries and developing healthy relationships.
