About me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor who is passionate about helping individuals and families, especially those with a diagnosis of ADHD in self or their family member(s). I am especially passionate about your child, family adjustment and quality of life if ADHD is a factor! I have many years of experience in both public and private school working with families, children and adolescents addressing stress, future planning, social adjustment, academic performance, anxiety, motivation and bullying. I believe HOPE is available and that small successes lead to improved future outcomes.
I am a daughter, a sibling, a spouse, a parent and a grandparent and an aunt of wonderful family members who have all been diagnosed as having (or being) ADHD. They are all uniquely different and have walked through times of struggle and success! I lived through many challenges alongside them that only motivated me to dig deeper and work toward solutions both personally and professionally. I am happy to report that individuals, regardless of a diagnosis, can find strengths and use those to move toward greater success. This comes through greater understanding and communication which fosters empathy, a willingness to 'look at things' differently, gain knowledge and consider options for progress. My goal is to facilitate this understanding and foster the growth of both the individual and the family as we address their concerns and the "hot sports" that tend to create chaos and misunderstanding in their lives.
I have a broad educational and experiential base that is unique!
As a lifelong educator and school counselor, I am keenly aware of the potential landmines in academics, socialization, emotional regulation and self-management that can trip up individuals and destroy success and motivation in all settings.I administrated hundreds of IEP and 504 meetings and have logged countless additional hours of individual counseling/meetings with parents, students and teachers in an effort to work for a better outcome! As a doctoral student, I pursued research in this area (ADHD and peers) and had the privilege to learn even more teaching Child Development, Families in Crisis, and The Contemporary Family, I believe this experience along with my many and diverse experiences, gives me a depth of understanding that drives my work now!
I conduct FREE initial consultations and will readily listen to concerns prior to asking an individual to book an appointment.
I consider it a privilege and a great responsibility to help others, foster hope and work hard to be responsive to the uniqueness of each client and the expressed needs.
I offer In-Person and Virtual appointments for counseling. I also facilitate support sessions in the preferred format for a variety of topics related to the challenges mentioned.
