About me
I am a compassionate mental health counselor specializing in OCD, anxiety, problematic perfectionism, and career stress.
I believe in the capacity of us all to define our life's path by taking risks and stretching in new directions. This can be one of the hardest parts of OCD and anxiety: not making your own choices anymore and having them be driven by the lump in your throat or the pit in your stomach. Before I became a therapist, I was a lawyer for almost 20 years. That experience informs my work with clients as we strengthen their inner advocate and, often, develop a truer understanding of who they are and want to be when they are the ones choosing how to live. YOU are not that critical, anxious voice in your head. I would like to get to know YOU.
My style is engaged, gentle, and directive. I listen closely and value a dynamic exchange of ideas in sessions. Our brains are both fantastic and oddly glitchy; it is important to understand how yours works in order to manage anxiety and OCD, so that is a key part of my approach. The work we do together will likely integrate:
(1) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which explores how our thoughts affect our emotions;
(2) Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for anxiety and OCD, and;
(3) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which provides a framework for unhooking from unhelpful thoughts and feelings, and learning how to accept certain things we cannot change while clarifying our core values.
I see clients through the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy, either in person at the Center in Midtown Manhattan, or virtually, online, whichever is your preference. I currently hold a limited permit to provide mental health counseling in the State of New York (MHC-LP #18-P127067-01). As a limited permit holder, my clinical work at the Center is supervised by Clinical Director Dr. Steven Phillipson, a licensed psychologist and world-renowned specialist in the treatment of OCD, with more than 30 years' experience in the field. Before becoming a staff psychotherapist at the Center, I trained there for a year, learning Dr. Phillipson’s methods and helping clients with a range of mental health concerns including, but not limited to, OCD and anxiety.
