About me
I am a clinical psychologist working with adults and adolescents who struggle with anxiety, depression, and adjustments to changed circumstances.
As a provider, I particularly enjoy working with people who struggle with transitions. On the one hand, I work with individuals who struggle with perfectionism, organization, ADHD, OCD. On the other, I work with people who are grappling with chronic or complex medical conditions, difficult workplaces, bi-cultural families, or disorientation due to immigration, relocation or changes in academic and professional performance.
In our work together, we may reflect about the impact of larger contexts (current local and world events, the cultures you were raised in, family networks or religious/professional settings, and the degree of insider/outsider status you possess across different locations). We may focus on strategies to manage current challenges or we may explore the impact of beliefs derived from experiences earlier in life. How we work will be determined by the needs you present. I work from a relational, dynamic frame and incorporate best practices for different presentations.
To tailor treatment, I will listen with care and respect for where you want to be and where you have been. You may struggle on the inside, even when others see you as capable. You may criticize yourself or believe you should be achieving more. The people I work with tend to see themselves as successful in some areas and not in others. They may be frequently frustrated, disappointed, ashamed, or even angry, but they don’t know why. So they beat themselves up, hide their pain, and often give up on their dreams. As a therapist, I help my adult and adolescent clients discover how to respect, trust, and care for themselves, so they can engage life fully again.
By the end of our time together, life is unlikely to be perfect but I find that people have discovered ways to navigate an imperfect world - confident about who they want to be in the world, with a better understanding of their gifts, more aware and compassionate about their vulnerabilities, and able to balance expectations and disagreements in relationships .
