About me
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Bernard approaches his practice with deep compassion and a keen therapeutic prowess. Working extensively with clients from diverse identities and cultural backgrounds, he demonstrates a strong affinity for aiding those in need. His professional journey encompasses diverse clinical environments, including community outreach, school-based interventions, Outpatient care, and Intensive Outpatient clinics.
Bernard's integrative approach seamlessly blends techniques and interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Positive Parenting, and Strategic Family therapy. Bernard’s expertise has empowered him to tackle an array of mental health challenges and psychological disorders, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce/separation, trauma, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, anger and aggression issues, behavioral issues, acculturation stress, and family/ intimate relationship conflicts.
Throughout his career, Bernard has co-facilitated educational and support groups, fostering growth and resilience among school-aged children (age 5-21) and parents. Bernard is also experienced in Early Intervention, in which he addressed deficits in developmental domains as well as other neurodevelopmental disorders for children aged 0-5. Bernard firmly believes in the individualized nature of therapy, rejecting the notion of a "one-size-fits-all" approach, all in service of his clients' holistic well-being.
Bernard was born and raised in Hong Kong. His multilingual abilities in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin have enabled him to bridge linguistic and cultural divides. Bernard’s academic achievements include a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego.
