About me

"As a person who has walked with people through life’s challenges, I empathize and understand that sometimes we just need to stop and breathe before we can move forward."

Terri Tyson is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois with 18 years of experience helping people navigate life’s challenges with resilience and faith. Terri’s work is guided by compassion, curiosity, and the belief that healing begins when we feel seen and understood. In addition to counseling, Terri serves as a hospital chaplain, walking with people through crisis, loss, and transformation. These experiences deepen her understanding of how purpose and hope can coexist even in difficult seasons of life.

Terri holds a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in Community Counseling from the University of Dayton. She also holds a Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Counseling from United Theological Seminary. Terri’s approach is to draw on evidence-based practices and spiritual insight to promote self-discovery, and personal growth.

Terri meets clients where they are, without judgment or expectation, creating a space for honest reflection and forward movement. The goal is to provide the tools and support needed to reach meaningful outcomes. Together, we’ll explore how to walk this journey at your pace, building confidence and clarity along the way.

Terri describes herself as "the friend that friends came to during hard times. I felt my life was leading me in this direction and I wanted to use these natural skills to help others in a more deliberate manner." She feels she works best with clients who have recognized they are at a turning point in their lives but are stuck as to what the next steps need to be.

"The one thing I always tell my clients is that they actually come in with the answers. I am just there to help them discover what is already inside of themselves. We hold vast resources within ourselves that, for whatever reason, are masked. We will gently remove the mask together and find the beauty and strength already within."

You will spend your first couple of sessions building trust and rapport. It is important to Terri to know your history and the “why” of what brought you to her office. From there, together a plan will develop of what will work towards, your goals, and your dreams.

Terri loves to travel and has been to more than 20 countries. She hold a musical theater degree and used to work on cruise ships as onboard entertainment. She also performed in theater and bands throughout the US. She describes herself as a huge animal lover and has rarely been without some sort of pet her whole life. These have included creatures from dogs and cats to flying squirrels and ferrets.
