About me
Hello! I am a national-board-certified, licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) who works with individuals and couples, from young adults to older adults. Counseling is more than a job; it is a calling I have been prepared for my entire life. "My desire to be a fellow traveler on a client's therapeutic journey stems from my first-hand knowledge of the healing benefits of a trusting counseling relationship." Every person has the potential to achieve. However, sometimes, we do not know what we want or need. We hear mixed messages from within ourselves and others. As a therapist, I guide clients untangling the messages and discern which messages bring feelings of darkness and which lead to peace and joy. Together, we find stolen hopes and dreams and discover the path to achieving them.
I began my counseling career in 2017, following 30 years in non-profit human services, earning a Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix. My counseling approach is integrative, which means I utilize evidence-based theory and innovative and emerging techniques when I work with my clients. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist. In addition, I am Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed, a designation I earned after completing a specific six-month training.
I established Brilliant Hope Counseling, PLLC (BHC), in 2021. We provide hope-based, trauma-informed mental health counseling to individuals, couples, and families, from young adults to elders. Our company's vision is grounded in a bold and altruistic belief that mental health counseling should be accessible to everyone, allowing those who embark on this journey to continue until they reach healing. Furthermore, BRILLIANCE is an acronym that represents our core values: BELIEVE, REAWAKEN, INTEGRATIVE, LEADERSHIP, LISTEN, INCLUSIVE, ACCEPTANCE, NURTURE, COMPASSION, and EMBOLDEN. On a personal note, I was born in Florida, and I have lived in Salt Lake City since 2010. I enjoy writing haiku poetry and being outdoors, and I do CrossFit to stay healthy. My husband and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We have two children, a daughter and our son, who passed away 17 years ago at the age of 20. His death was the catalyst for following my lifelong dream to be a mental health counselor. Good can come from bad.
