About me

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist supervised by Carisa Sherwood LMFT #48768. I work with individuals, couples & families and children, focusing on trauma and how that influences traditional diagnoses (Depression, Anxiety, Bipolor Disorder, BPD etc.)

I want to applaud you for advocating for your mental health. I believe that the biggest step towards healing is seeking help because it sends a message to you that you are worth it. My name is Steve DeCristofaro and after 15 years of prompting I decided to heed God's call for me to be a therapist. I am husband and father of 2 amazing grown children. I received my Master’s in Counseling Psychology in October of 2021 from William Jessup University and am working towards licensure as an Associate MFT. I work as a clinician at Life Practice Counseling Group under the amazing Carisa Sherwood, LMFT.

I have training in several modalities - Psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Couples/Family Therapy, and Strategic Family Therapy. I also have training in Brainspotting, an effective intervention for Trauma and PTSD. I am currently working towards my certification in Brainspotting. It is important to me to be familiar with multiple theories because I believe in the uniqueness of the therapeutic process. Everyone is different, with their own experiences. One person's anxiety is not the same as another's.

I am also a Christian Counselor, which means for those who share the Christian Faith, I am able to bring perspective that is influenced by God's word. This is useful with any modality listed above. With that said, I have respect for all of my client's belief systems and can adapt therapy as needed. Most of all, I am not afraid of the dark places. Early on in my journey to become a therapist, the following was offered: You can't expect a client to go deeper than you have ever been. Let me hold the lamp as we journey together towards healing.
