About me
I provide affirming, trauma-informed therapy for LGBTQIA+, ENM, and neurodivergent clients. Using EMDR, CBT, DBT skills, and other evidence-based approaches, I help clients process difficult experiences, build coping tools, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Hi, I’m Stevie Fichtenmayer, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Catalyst Counseling and Mental Health in Missouri. I know reaching out for therapy can feel daunting. You may have been carrying pain alone for a long time, or maybe you’ve tried therapy before and left feeling unseen. My goal is to offer a different experience: a space where you feel affirmed, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.
I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, people in ethically non-monogamous and relationship-diverse communities, and adults living with neurodivergence. I’m also deeply committed to trauma work. Too many people in these communities have had to explain themselves in therapy or have felt misunderstood by providers. Here, you don’t have to teach me who you are or defend your identity; you can show up exactly as yourself and know you’ll be met with respect and compassion.
My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and evidence-based. I integrate EMDR, DBT skills, CBT, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused approaches. In real terms, that means we’ll balance healing past wounds with building practical tools you can use in daily life. Clients often tell me they appreciate that I’m both warm and down-to-earth, but also direct and practical when it matters. You’ll leave sessions feeling heard, but also with strategies you can actually put into practice.
Therapy with me isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some weeks may be about working through painful memories, some weeks about finding new ways to cope with anxiety or ADHD struggles, and some weeks about exploring identity or navigating relationship challenges. While therapy can be hard work, I also believe growth can include humor, lightness, and curiosity.
I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy for clients across Missouri. Virtual sessions allow you to access affirming care from the comfort of your home, whether you’re balancing work, school, parenting, or simply prefer the flexibility of telehealth.
Education and training are an important part of my work. I hold a Master’s in Social Work and advanced training in EMDR, DBT skills, CBT, and trauma-focused care. I stay current in the field because my clients deserve the best that evidence-based practice and affirming care have to offer.
But beyond credentials, what truly makes my practice unique is the heart behind it. I became a therapist because I believe everyone deserves a safe place to be seen and heard without judgment. I’ve seen again and again how transformative it can be when someone finally feels safe enough to be themselves, process their story, and move toward the life they want.
Outside of my work, I’m a parent, a partner, and a lifelong learner. I know firsthand the challenges of balancing many roles while still trying to carve out space for your own growth and healing. I bring that real-life perspective into my work. I won’t expect perfection, and I’ll meet you where you are.
If you’ve been searching for therapy that feels both affirming and practical, supportive yet empowering, I’d love to connect. At Catalyst Counseling and Mental Health, you don’t have to do this alone. Together, we can explore your story, build resilience, and create a path toward healing and growth.
