About me

I am an experienced mental health therapist, having expertise in assisting with anxiety, PTSD, lack of focus and concentration, and providing supportive counseling for trans* and gender-diverse, gender non-conforming, or gender questioning clients.

I am a clinical social worker and PhD educator. As a therapist I see clients in person at my private practice in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and by Doxy (like Zoom). I am also an Assistant Professor at Ferris State University Social Work Department, teaching graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, I conduct research on gender diversity, and I have done policy work to change the national recommendations for provision of mental health services to transgender and gender non-conforming people.

I have a great deal of experience assisting clients who have anxiety disorders, helping those who have difficulty with focus and concentration, and supporting those who are transgender or gender non-conforming, or who simply have gender identity concerns or who are questioning their gender. I provide CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for anxiety disorders; provide TIR (Traumatic Incident Reduction) for PTSD and trauma concerns; teach skills for increasing focus and concentration; and provide counseling and supportive therapy for trans* and gender-diverse clients.

I was also successful in getting protections for 'gender identity or expression' added to the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) Code of Ethics, and I have served as the lead author of the NASW National Policy on Work with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Clients.
