About me
I am an experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for connecting to people and helping them learn to recognize their strengths and using them in the face of life's challenges. I use a variety of methods depending on client needs to address, anxiety, stress, depression, mood disorders such as bipolar, relationship and family issues to name a few. I have offices in Canyon, Texas and in Hereford, Texas.
Congratulations on taking the first step to a stronger and happier you! You may feel nervous about coming to therapy and that is understandable - just know you are the one that is in control. You share only what you feel safe and comfortable sharing. Together we will figure out what you want to be different in your life and a find the best path forward.
I have experience working with many different age groups and people in various life stages and skill in many areas of mental health, including: anxiety, depression, bipolar and other mood disorders, stress management, OCD and the treatment of trauma and PTSD. I worked in long-term care with elderly individuals and their often grieving family members and care-givers form over 20 years, working with survivors and rape and/or domestic violence in previous years.
I am goal-oriented and client-centered and I believe you are the expert in your life and that you have the ultimate say in the direction of sessions. I incorporate many methods in my approach, though my focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy based on the premise that our thoughts drive our feelings and we can re-frame, and change our thoughts.
I strive to create an environment in which you feel safe, accepted, and never judged. Sometimes people are hesitant to come to therapy because "other people have it worse." What is true is that the issues you are confronting are happening to you, and causing turmoil in your life. The magnitude of someone else's pain does not diminish your own pain.
I have completed trainings by the Strong Star Training Initiative for Cognitive Processing Therapy and Written Exposure Therapy for Trauma. I have also completed training in The Body Keeps Score - Trauma Healing with Bessel van der Kolk.
