About me
My name is Shelly Keene and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Anchorage, Alaska, and working with clients via telehealth from the place I call home - California.
In my work with clients, it's important that I'm capable of providing a safe space for you to express your feelings and feel worthy of being heard and validated. It is my goal that we can create an environment that you're comfortable with to explore your needs vulnerably and as you feel ready. I utilize various evidence-based approaches to match your individual needs and work at your pace as I understand that I am not the expert of your life and personal experiences.
I work with adults and adolescents to help manage daily life stressors and cope with anxiety and depression, manage feelings of anger and emotion dysregulation, family and relational conflict, phase of life problems, and other areas of life that can be difficult to work through. I also have years of experience with those who struggle with substance use, whether it be your own or coping with a loved one's battles with addiction.
I hope to help make the process of seeking therapy feel less intimidating and learn how we can make it most effective for you. I listen with intent and commit my undivided attention to our sessions with full engagement and a desire to understand how to make the most of our time.
Our first session will primarily be about getting to know one another and answering any questions you might have about the process. I might ask questions to better understand what you'd like to get from our sessions or focus the majority of our time on simply building rapport to help you feel comfortable before fully engaging in goal setting.
