About me...
Sheila Flynn, M.Ed, NCC, LPC
Credentials: Masters of Education with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University which followed a strict coursework designed by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Program or CACREP which includes clinical fieldwork in the counseling field. This CACREP accreditation along with 3000 field hours and the passing of the National Counselor Exam granted me the National Board of Certified Counselors' certification as a National Certified Counselor.
License & Supervision: Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council granted me the Texas Licensed Professional Counselor Associate license in 2022 and I am currently under supervision of Kelly Rice, LPC-S.
Education: I received my Associates of Arts in Teaching from Lone Star College in 2014. Since then, I have completed my Bachelor of General Studies with a minor in Psychology, Political Science, and History in 2015 from Sam Houston State University and completed my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in December of 2020. My training includes a Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling which included 80 hours of in person residency in individual and group counseling, 300 hours of practicum, and 3000 direct and indirect counseling hours meeting the The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs strict guidelines.
Ethics: My practice is governed through the American Counseling Association or ACA’s Code of Ethics 2014 which sets the standard for safe and ethical treatment of clients. I believe that change is not a one-step approach, but rather change occurs through small increments which happen through behavior, emotional, and cognitive growth. I am here to help you find your growth together.
Experience: Previously, I worked under the supervision of Tiffany Beshears, LPC-S and BC-TMH through ACTS Counseling in Houston, Texas and previously served at Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center in Humble, Texas.
Community service is important, and I currently serve as a member in good standing with the American Counseling Association (ACA) and is currently member in good standing with the Chi Sigma Iota and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Societies and am currently the President of Lamar University's Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota.
Approaches & Techniques: My counseling approaches and techniques are client-centered, while using behavioral and integrative techniques tailored to fit the individual or couple. It is my belief that the client is the expert of their own life and knows what they want and need because each journey is unique to the individual.
With that being said, it is ultimately important to my as a therapist, to create an atmosphere where clients can communicate their feelings with confidence and know that they are being heard, understood, and not judged with a belief that the client plays an active role in their own personal healing to allow for the greatest amount of growth and progress.
My past experience includes working with children and adults for decades in the educational and/or professional setting. I truly enjoy working with adults, couples, children, and families.
I love working with person of all populations and ages, especially those individuals of families that suffer from grief, abuse, or loss. I desire to embrace my passion for helping people to reclaim their joy, power, and hope in life.
