EXPERIENCE:
I bring over 20 years of experience to my New York, N.Y. practice, which is conveniently located in Manhattan’s Mid-town East. Individual and Couple Therapy .constitute my core competences. With my multicultural upbringing, I am sensitized to the nuances of my clients’ diverse backgrounds. I conduct sessions in English, French, and Farsi. I also have working knowldege of Spanish.
Over the years, I have enjoyed therapeutic successes in a number of situations, owing to my keen interest in helping clients through various relationship challenges and life transitions, such as career, migration, change of environment, loss, trauma, and divorce.
PSYCHOTHERAPY APPROACH :
Psychotherapy involves identifying and understanding issues that subvert the attainment of improved quality of life. It also requires working with the therapist to untangle the blockages that stand between an individual and the reaching of realistic goals.
In my practice, I strive to understand each individual's issues and needs through the different phases of the therapeutic relationship. By uncovering patterns of reasoning and actions which surface from recurring automatic thoughts, I obtain a comprehensive understanding of the person in his functioning. Through a proactive, attuned, caring, neutral, compassionate and non-judgmental stance, an empowering process is developed, leading to an enhancement of self-esteem. I have come to see how people can better understand themselves and their relationships, and I am able to help them make improved choices by and for themselves, and to live more meaningful lives.
I help patients :
Experience Better Feelings about Self and Life
Enhance Capability to Experience Pleasure in Life
Relieve Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety
Discover Avenues Leading towards Greater Creativity
Improve Capacity to Trust Others
Explore Closeness in Relationships with Family and Partners
Achieve Fuller Potential at Work
Improved Control over Life and Decision-Making
ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS :
I earned my Psychology degrees at Sorbonne University in Paris. My thesis subject was Frustration in the Child: Comparative Study of Freinet and Conventional Pedagogical Techniques. Upon moving to the U.S., I honed my skills at the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy in New York. I was later admitted as a fellow at the Washington Psychoanalytic Society, where I enrolled in the three-year post-graduate training program in Psychotherapy. Subsequently, I completed the coursework and practicum requirements of the Post-Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology of the American School of Professional Psychology.
In France, I was an intern and subsequently an assistant to the Head of Neuro-Psychiatry at the Jean Itard Day Care Psychiatric Hospital. I then took the position of Human Resources Psychologist at the Union des Banques Arabes et Francaises in Paris. Prior to establishing my private practice in the United States, I was a Psychologist with a contractor for several Staten Hospital sites, overseeing a client population with diagnoses of personality disorders, schizophrenia, and autism, among others. I was also a Psychologist Associate at the National Children's Center in a full-time position with caseload responsibility for 30 in-patients.
