About me

Hi, I’m Scotty! It is my goal to join with you and guide both of us in growth through the power of the therapeutic relationship. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience helping adults cope with everything from severe mental illness to the daily stressors of life.

Although I describe my therapeutic approach as eclectic, I lean heavily toward Relational-Cultural Theory. I believe that people grow in relationships that exhibit mutual empathy and empowerment. I have particular interest in the effects of trauma on an individual’s mental and physical health and methods in which those effects can be mitigated.

Solution-Focused Therapy is an integral part of my practice as well. SFT is a solution-focused, future-oriented form of therapy that focuses on your strengths as a way to reach your goals. In this paradigm, you, the client, are viewed as the expert on your life.

I have worked in the field of mental health for nearly 30 years. My clients have come from all age groups, educational levels, and socioeconomic statuses. I have worked with clients in community mental health, prison, long-term care, and hospice. I hold a Masters of Arts in Psychology from Marshall University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of New England.

In my free time, I enjoy reading post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction. When I’m not reading, I spend hours enjoying nature in the Appalachian Mountains along with my Great Pyrenees, Ghost.

Together, we will form a therapeutic relationship that will strengthen and empower the both of us in growth. Please contact me if you feel that I may be able to meet your needs.
