About me

I am a seasoned Mental Health Therapist dedicated to helping you develop self-compassion, healing, and freedom

If you're reading this, you've already made the first (and most difficult) step. Here at Grounded Roots, we aim to tailor your treatment to your specific needs. Whether you're seeking short-terms tools to help you manage immediate issues, or prefer long-term care to help heal you from past traumas, we're here to guide you on your path to healing.

Samantha Wright received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Dartmouth College, and a Master's Degree from the University of San Diego in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and she is licensed to practice in CA, VA, MD, and DC. Samantha specializes in treating trauma and working with adolescents and adults with eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder, as well as treating body image issues, anxiety, depression, and self-injury.

Samantha has training and experience in CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention, Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She has experience working in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health programs, residential settings, private practice, primary care settings, and community mental health clinics.

Samantha believes that every client is an individual and needs an individualized treatment approach. Therefore, her practice incorporates culturally sensitive elements of psychodynamic work to help clients explore their past and present circumstances and traumas in order to promote increased self-awareness, relief from stress and anxiety, better relationships, greater life satisfaction, and improved overall health. She also incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and in her work with disordered eating, utilizes the principles of Intuitive Eating to help clients discover self-compassion, food freedom, and body appreciation.
