About me

It is extremely important to me to create a safe holding space for clients to process their thoughts, beliefs and feelings, that are negatively impacting peoples quality of life. I believe that this type of environment provides the opportunity for those individuals, couples and families to receive support and guidance in achieving their goals of an improved and functional quality of life. Current and past trends suggest that it is often difficult for many to seek support. I utilize a collaborative approach with people taking into account their own personal goals, family structures, etc., while collaboratively engaging in the changes that they desire in their lives, while also providing practical and tangible strategies and coping techniques to implement during stressful moments. I specialize in the treatment of individuals impacted by relational difficulties, divorce, co-parenting, re-marriage, blending of families, child-custody and grief and loss related issues.

I have acquired over 45 years of pre-licensed and licensed experience, education and training in working with various populations including adults, adolescents and children. Additional experience with working and treating those impacted by drug and alcohol related issues, domestic violence (batterers syndrome), child protective services and dually diagnosed individuals.
I have over 15 years of experience as a Child Protective Services Social Worker with the County of San Diego, CA.
I have approximately 5 years of experience as a Staff Psychologist with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for both male and female facilities.
I have continued to develop my craft while providing individual and family therapy while in private practice and group practice environments.
Empirically validated treatment modalities mostly utilized, but are not limited to the following:
Cognitive Behavioral
Solution Focused
Humanistic/Existential
Extended Family Systems
Experiential/Communication
Structural Family Therapy
Strategic Family therapy
Narrative Therapy
With the utilization of these theories of psychotherapy, once the unit and length of treatment is determined based on the presenting problem(s), and the goals of treatment are determined, it is then that the therapeutic relationship begins. The therapist role is further clarified; the process of change/insight is then determined while the view of maladaptive behaviors is reviewed throughout the sessions. Interventions are implemented at the beginning, early/middle and later stages of treatment based on progress in treatment.
