About me
Licensed clinical psychologist providing therapy that explores the experiences and identity of fathers to create transformational growth and healing.
Dads matter. Dads matter as involved, responsible, and caring fathers. Furthermore, dads matter as people: in addition to being positive impacts on children, fathers have inherent human value. Dads deserve support, resources, and self curiosity and knowledge; and children deserve secure and healthy caregivers.
The process of experiencing alters the mind during times of pain or difficulty, as well as times of healing. Experiential therapies work to unlock neural connections that hold deep emotional beliefs about the self, world, and others that informs relationships, experiences, and general functioning. It cultivates a collaborative relationship with the self and healthy and secure internal attachment.
Experiential therapy encourages deep exploration, authentic impact, and sustainable change. As fathers, this intersects with themes of male caregiver identity and healing for future generations. Therapy promotes internal connection, and corrective emotional experiences can mend the mind to create transformational growth.
Therapy explores themes and experiences of fatherhood, including identity development and change, intergenerational parenting, masculinity, emotions, communication, and roles of dads. Driven by curiosity, rooted in strength, and based in science, therapy empowers dads to engage in healthy, secure, curious, and intentional relationships with the self and others, including co-parents and children.
Experiences within the caregiving interaction and relationship may evoke difficult memories/emotions or previously-created beliefs, as well as the protective responses that developed in reaction to times that required safety. Exploring these historically-adaptive methods can heal the self, and encourage a more secure and intentional caregiving relationship.
Children are also developing their own experiences and beliefs of the world and other people, and caregivers’ responses can shape expectations they use to navigate the world.
If you became a ‘better’ father as a result of engaging in therapy, what would that look like/mean to you? What difference do you hope that would have on your life and child(ren)?
