About me
I work with clients with significant levels of stress. They often have anxiety and depression. They are in distress and psychological pain. They are looking for a way to improve their life, so that they are not feeling out of control or unmotivated or numb. they would like to get their life back on track. They want to learn how to manage stress better. They want to eliminate their daily anxiety and/or depression. They want to be able to live their lives in a positive and effective manner.
I work with two different models that assist in helping me work with my client in a collaborative way. We figure out what the real issue is? We develop a strategy for effectively dealing with it. We end therapy when the client feels he or she has the skills, the attitude and the connection to "Self" that can lead them into a positive and productive future.
I have been a psychotherapist for the past 28 years. I had my own experience with therapy and had a positive experience with it. This led me to a decision to go back to graduate school and become a psychotherapist. I am interested in helping people connect to their authentic self. I believe we have inner resources (talents, abilities, skills comic experiences and character traits) that when access can help us to regain balance within ourselves and, therefore, regaining balance in our life.
I engage in online therapy sessions. I've been doing this for the past five years. Prior to this I worked in Community Counseling centers, non-public schools and worked for the behavioral health clinic in Inyo County. I have worked with a variety of clients. I started my career working with Children and adolescents in schools and group homes. I did family preservation work in which I helped parents and their children get back together. I worked at a County Behavioral Health Center in which I saw clients who were diagnosed with schizophrenic, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and various anxiety and mood disorders. I do not subscribe to working with people with their so-called diagnosis as my main focal point.
I believe that stress in its many forms and from its many origins, is a huge factor in a person developing mental health issues. We all have mental health issues at times in our life. However, I believe there is a way and a perspective that focuses on connecting with our " authentic selves." there is a model of therapy called Internal Family Systems (IFS) that brings this to the forefront of psychotherapy and the process that I engage with clients.
I find this to be extremely rewarding for clients and for me as a psychotherapist.
In my private life I enjoy hiking with my two dogs, Maggie and Austin. I love to listen to music and going to live music events. I love movies of all kinds. I love the American West and it's landscapes. I have enjoyed snorkeling in Hawaii, Cozumel and Belize.
I invite you to communicate with me and find out if we are a good match to engage in Psychotherapy together. I believe that I can provide you with a safe and comfortable environment. I can help you to connect to your authentic self, manage daily stress and live your life in a positive and healthy way.
