About me
I am a licensed professional counselor (TX, CO, and PA,), licensed clinical professional counselor (ME), and licensed professional clinical counselor (OH) with 10 years of experience helping adults cope with gender identity, sexual orientation, depression, anxiety, family struggles, life transitions, and disabilities (intellectual/learning, developmental, and physical).
Hello, my name is Rachel Berger and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the States of Texas, Colorado, and Pennsylvania; a Licensed Clinical Counselor in the State of Maine; and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio. I graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology. The type of counseling I deliver focuses on the individual and setting goals to improve comfort in one's life. My approach to helping clients achieve this emphasizes compassion and empowerment and is directed towards individuals with different struggles.
I understand how stigmatizing it can be for people with disabilities living in an able-bodied normative world. This experience helped me to gain insight into working with individuals with developmental, learning, and physical disabilities. I am also a passionate advocate for people in the LGBTQ and gender-variant communities. There is more acceptance in some parts of the world of those whose gender identity varies from the gender assigned at birth. Gender-variant people are misunderstood and have difficulty finding gender-affirming counselors. This is the reason I gravitate towards helping individuals with these complex issues.
Other issues I counsel individuals on include anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, chronic pain, self-harm, and body-focused repetitive behaviors, among others that may develop.
My approach to treatment is influenced by cognitive-behavioral, existential, feminist, humanistic, mindfulness, and psychodynamic theories. Each individual is important and deserves treatment with respect. We are all capable of enriching our lives with open-ended compassion and support.
