About me
Hello,
I’m Phil Granish, the owner and founder of Airborne Counseling and Psychological Services PLLC. I am a limited licensed psychologist who has worked for over 2 ½ decades in and around the criminal justice system. I am also a former Army paratrooper. I have a passion for working with law enforcement officers and fellow veterans, though my practice is not limited to working with these groups. I provide a wide range of mental health services, but primarily work with trauma, anxiety disorders, sexual addictions/ sexual offending, and couples counseling.
TRAUMA/ PTSD
When working with trauma and PTSD, I generally use either Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) or Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PT). EMDR is a form of exposure therapy that uses bilateral stimulation of the brain to reduce the effects of trauma. PE is a short-duration, high-intensity program that focuses on overcoming the anxiety associated with PTSD. During the intake session, we will discuss your specific needs and preferences and determine what treatment is best for you.
ANXIETY DISORDERS
Anxiety disorders range from very mild to debilitating, and often cause the person experiencing them significant distress. EMDR has a protocol that is specifically designed to treat anxiety, and I have found it to be very effective. Patients often benefit from a combination of EMDR and coping skills, with many patients reporting a decrease in symptoms.
SEXUAL ADDICTIONS & SEXUAL OFFENDING
For almost 8 years, I led a sex offender treatment program for incarcerated men with cognitive impairments. During that time, I realized that a large percentage of the offenders I worked with had an underlying sexual addiction. As a result, I began providing treatment for sexual addictions. I currently offer treatment for both sexual offending and sexual addictions. When focusing on sexual offending, I use the Good Lives Model as the basis of therapy. When focusing on sexual addictions, I use the Out of the Shadows and Facing the Shadows books by Patrick Carnes, PhD.
COUPLES COUNSELING
I work with many couples who are struggling with their relationships. To help them resolve their problems and have greater relationship satisfaction, I use the Gottman Method, an evidence-based couples therapy program with very high success rates. I also provide pre-marital couples counseling using either the SYMBIS Assessment or the Prepare Enrich program. Feel free to learn about each of these programs at the website listed below.

MDOC EMPLOYEES/PROBATIONERS/ PAROLEES
Due to my employment with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), I am not currently able to treat anyone employed by the MDOC. I am also unable to accept clients who are on probation or parole if they are supervised by MDOC. If they are supervised by another agency, such as the courts or the federal government, I am able to provide treatment.
