About me
Opening up to someone new can be scary so my top priority is to create an environment that feels secure, a place that can contain the multitudes of the highest of joys and the scariest scaries. The relationships that stem from this environment then, is the strong foundation for therapy. My specialties include EMDR therapy, religious trauma, & helping people reshape their own narratives, putting themselves as the main character in their own story being written. I strive to remove the stigmas surrounding the common portrayals of stodgy, clinical therapy, & replace them with a more personal and relaxed therapeutic style.
I specialize in building relationships, first and foremost. Beyond this, the therapy begins to open up naturally, allowing for the therapy to begin to break down the belief systems held by people that are impacting them in a negative way.
I offer a therapy space that will be nonjudgmental and safe for all individuals who walk through the door to process feelings and emotions. One of my main objectives is to create a space where one can feel comfortable to share the highs and lows in life - I firmly believe that one cannot share intimate and sometimes difficult aspects of life if one is not feeling comfortable within the given space. This is why I strive to create a relaxed and easy-going environment for all of my clients. I believe that all feelings and emotions are valid and that through examining the whole self, one can begin to take steps towards better understanding and growth. We will spend time collaboratively structuring treatment goals which strengthen and empower individuals to take action and make changes towards greater mental health.
I primarily view therapy through the lens of reality therapy, as it encompasses the full human experience and needs, identifying the 5 specific aspects and needs that may or may not be being met in one's life - survival (basic needs), love and belonging, power and achievement, freedom and independence, and fun and enjoyment. This being said however, I am also trained in several other therapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for reshaping maladaptive thought processes, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma reprocessing, as well as others.
