About me
I am a License Clinical Psychologist who is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness based cognitive therapy. I have also received training in the Polyvagal guidance approach to treatment which is founded on the foundation of creating safety and stabilization with trauma patients. I have extensive experience treating depression, trauma, Grief, Anxiety, Alcohol and Drug dependency, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Survivors of Narcissistic abuse. I am passionate about providing services that will help improve the mental health of people of African descent by utilizing treatments that connect with their core beliefs and values.
I am dedicated in building rapport with my patients. Rapport is achieved by facilitating a therapeutic setting where individuals feel safe, heard, and supported, without being evaluated and criticized. This process is facilitated through the use of various strategies, such as asking clarifying question, reflecting and paraphrasing , showing understanding, and being genuine, While Cognitive Behavioral therapy does consider the impact of past experiences, it focuses primarily on present-day issues and solutions. The core principle of my approach to therapy is based on the cognitive model that emphasizes thoughts, feelings. and behaviors are interconnected. When we change our interpretations and beliefs about events and problems we change how we feel and behave. The path towards change is for individuals to work on identifying, challenging, and reframing their maladaptive thoughts and beliefs and build positive emotional skills for well-being. These maladaptive thoughts are persistent, negative thoughts and beliefs that lead to negative feelings and behaviors and difficulty in daily functioning.
