About me

Practical, structured therapy for high-responsibility adults, professionals, and caregivers navigating internal strain. Combining clinical precision with genuine warmth to help you regain control, connection, and steady composure, without endless, unstructured chat.

You may be the person everyone counts on to stay steady, capable, and composed. You make decisions, solve problems, take care of other people, and keep moving even when the pressure is getting harder to carry.

From the outside, life may look successful and well managed. On the inside, you may be dealing with persistent anxiety, burnout, trauma symptoms, intrusive thoughts, relationship strain, irritability, poor sleep, or the sense that you are constantly bracing for the next problem. You may still be functioning at work and at home, but it is taking more effort than anyone around you realizes.

I work especially well with high responsibility adults, including professionals, business owners, leaders, clinicians, academics, and parents who are accustomed to being the person others rely on. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable people who have spent years pushing through stress until something finally stops working the way it used to.

My practice commonly addresses anxiety, PTSD and trauma, obsessive compulsive patterns, burnout, adjustment difficulties, relationship strain, perfectionism, grief, career uncertainty, and major life transitions. Some clients come in after a clearly traumatic experience. Others are dealing with the accumulated impact of years of pressure, conflict, responsibility, or chronic stress.

I also work with people whose professional lives add another layer of complexity. Leadership demands, workplace conflict, role ambiguity, organizational change, decision fatigue, and the pressure to perform can intensify mental health symptoms or make it difficult to know whether the problem is personal, professional, or both.

My background is somewhat unusual for a therapist. I hold master's degrees in both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Industrial Organizational Psychology from St. Cloud State University, along with a decade of corporate experience. That combination helps me understand both what is happening internally and the real world systems and responsibilities surrounding it.

Therapy with me is active, practical, and focused. We begin by getting clear about what is happening, what is keeping it going, and what you want to change. I am not interested in having you spend months talking in circles without knowing whether anything is improving.

For PTSD and trauma related concerns, treatment may include Cognitive Processing Therapy to identify and work through beliefs that have become stuck after traumatic experiences. For anxiety, panic, and obsessive compulsive patterns, treatment may include exposure based strategies that help reduce avoidance and the constant cycle of threat monitoring and reassurance seeking. Treatment is tailored to the person in front of me rather than forcing every client into the same approach.

I especially enjoy working with people who are skeptical of therapy, short on time, or frustrated by experiences that felt vague or overly passive. You do not have to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or knowing how therapy is supposed to work. My job is to help make sense of the problem with you and develop a practical path forward.

Criterion Counseling offers in person therapy in St. Cloud and telehealth throughout Minnesota. My goal is to provide care that respects your intelligence, your time, and the reality of the responsibilities you are carrying, while helping you feel less controlled by anxiety, trauma, pressure, or patterns that are no longer working.
