About me

I specialize in supporting adults through life transitions, anxiety, grief/loss, depression, navigating relationships and general life challenges.

Welcome! My name is Naomi Kimmelman. I am a psychotherapist (LMFT) licensed in California and Hawaii. I draw upon over 15 years of experience supporting people through the challenges of life. I became a therapist because I am awed and humbled by the range of our human experience and the profound nature and resilience of the human heart, mind, body, and soul.

I best support people who identify with at least two of the following:
1. Are a young, middle aged, or older adult (18 - 100+).
2. Have never had therapy before.
3. Have had therapy and are experienced with mental health topics, but are looking for a new or different approach. Especially, if you want to go deeper, learn about holistic tools and perspectives, gain understanding, insight and clarity.
4. Relate to the experience of at least one of the following: Anxiety, depression, going through or preparing for a life transition or change, are having relationship challenges (with partners, friends, parents, other family members, children or co-workers), grief, loss, or the death of a loved one, have had trauma(s) or been in hard/scary situations, have a life threatening or impactful illness, diagnosis or have a loved one who does, are exploring your identity and who you are, want to increase your self esteem, self confidence and get over guilt, shame and imposter syndrome, heal from past hurts or work towards a vision of your future self.
5. Identify as a student, a new therapist, or are a helping professional including but not limited to: teachers, first responders, medical professionals, healers, and activists.
6. Have a spiritual inclination, connection, values or religion that is important to you.
7. Are creative or love and appreciate nature.
8. Come from a diverse cultural background, heritage or have expansive identities (including possibly relating to sexuality, gender and more).
9. Alternatively, are white, cis-gendered or heterosexual.
10. Identify as first generation, indigenous or have moved internationally.
11. Have a desire to learn, grow, heal or experience something new.

I offer a deep, comprehensive yet practical approach to therapy and personal development. You will find me to be whole person-centered, compassionate, collaborative, holistic and integrative. By utilizing a range of tools, techniques, therapeutic orientations and modalities that I’m trained in to best suit your particular needs and desires, therapy will be curated uniquely for you.

I often use elements of: Jungian Depth and Psychodynamic therapy, Transpersonal, Humanistic and Existential therapy, IFS, Gestalt, Somatic, Mindfulness Based, Brainspotting, CBT, DBT, ACT, Trauma Informed, Expressive Arts therapy, Eco-Psychology, Emotion-Focused, Solution-Focused, Gottman Couples Therapy, Attachment Based, Interpersonal, and Multicultural therapy.

It can also be important to incorporate mind, body, spirit as well as community and cultural contexts in therapy to help you engage in fully authentic and deep work. I welcome people of all faiths (including atheist), identities, sexualities, genders, abilities and backgrounds.

In addition to traditional psychotherapy, I offer specialized “Rites of Passage” work to individuals, couples and families. A Rite of Passage is a ceremony, event or experience that intentionally recognizes an important aspect, stage or transition in a person’s life.

Common rites of passage may center around themes of: Starting or completing college or graduate school, a work change (e.g. starting a business or retiring), transitioning to parenthood, moving, a life changing illness or injury, marriage, divorce and death. There are many significant things we go through in life and this list includes just a sample. Please let me know if you are going through something like this and want to find out more about what doing "rites of passage" work together might look like.

Whatever you are going through, it's a big step to seek support. Your life is important and worthy of care. Therapy is not always easy but neither is living in discomfort. You can get to the other side. If you have landed on my page and think we would work well together please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation and I would be glad to discuss options with you.
