About me

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Elizabethtown, PA, dedicated to helping couples break painful patterns, repair trust, and build relationships grounded in honesty, respect, and real closeness.

You probably never pictured it getting this hard. The same argument keeps coming back in new clothes. One of you reaches for closeness and the other pulls away. Or you've both gone quiet and started living like roommates. Maybe there's been a betrayal. Maybe nothing dramatic happened at all, just a slow drift that scares you more than any fight.

I'm Mike, the owner of Two Currents Counseling in Elizabethtown, and couples work is the heart of what I do. I help partners who are tired of the dance and ready for something different.

Who I work with

I work with couples who are:

Stuck in the same fights that never seem to get resolved
Feeling disconnected, lonely, or more like roommates than partners
Recovering from an affair or another breach of trust
Struggling with communication, resentment, or criticism and withdrawal
Navigating big transitions like parenting, career changes, or an empty nest
Doing well enough, but wanting more depth, intimacy, and ease together

How I work

My approach is warm and direct. My primary model is Relational Life Therapy, developed by Terry Real. That means I won't sit back and nod while you go in circles. I'll tell each of you the truth, with real care, about what you're doing that keeps you stuck, and I'll help you learn what to do instead. I'm not here to referee or pick a winner. When one of you wins, the relationship loses.

I also draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems, because underneath most fights is something tender: a longing to matter, a fear of being alone, an old wound getting poked. Often the reactions that hurt your relationship most are old protective strategies that once helped you survive. When you can see that in yourself and in your partner, the conversation changes. Blame softens, curiosity grows, and you start to feel like a team again.

What to expect

In our work together, we'll slow down the patterns that keep repeating so you can both see them clearly. You'll each get honest feedback and practical tools: how to speak up without attacking, how to listen without defending, how to set limits with love, and how to repair when things go sideways. Because they will. Good relationships aren't the ones without conflict. They're the ones that know how to come back together.

The goal is what Terry Real calls full-respect living, a relationship where both of you can be fully honest and still feel close. Not perfect, but real, connected, and built to last.

A little about me

I'm a husband and a dad, so I know from the inside that love takes skill, not just feeling. I bring that same honesty and humility into the room. You'll find me engaged, plainspoken, and on the side of your relationship, even when that means saying the hard thing.

This work asks a lot, and it gives a lot back. If you're both willing to show up and invest in your relationship, I'd be glad to help. Reach out for a free consultation and let's talk about where you are and where you want to go.
