About me

I'm an integrative mental health therapist who uses talk therapy, nutrition, and complimentary and alternative approaches to help my clients improve their mental health and enjoy life to a greater degree.

My name is Michael, and I am licensed clinical social worker and a certified integrative mental health professional. I have been practicing for the last eight years, and I have greatly enjoyed it. Before opening my private practice, The Food Mood Therapists, I was providing integrated mental health care at a Federally Qualified Health Center to people with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. In this work I provided therapy, behavioral interventions and consulted along that patient's doctors, dentists, pharmacists and other professionals to help improve their physical and mental health.

This work taught me how powerful and connected the system of the body and mind truly are, and I sought out further education and training as a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. Now, in my private practice I not only provide therapy to my clients to help them with their mental health, but I provide education on how nutrition, vitamins, minerals, sleep and the other bodily system can improve mental and physical health. My client would likely say that their treatment plan is now longer however, they'd also say that it is more comprehensive and healing. There is potential healing power in what we eat, how we think, how we move our bodies and sleep, and I want to ensure that all people come to connect with it and benefit from it.

I am honored to have assisted so many people and to be brought into their lives, and I have learned a lot about what I am good at and even more about what I am not. In my practice now I enjoy helping people with mood disorders, obsessive and compulsive disorders, eating disorders and trauma. When I work with clients I primarily utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) however, depending on my clients needs and diagnosis I will use other evidenced based therapies such as EMDR, ERP, and CBT-E. At the end of the day I am flexible with treatment. My client and their healing process is my top priority and we'll work together to do what is needed.

Here's a little bit about our practice that you should know about. The name of my private practice is Food Mood Therapists, LLC, and I run it along side my wife Jennifer who is also a therapist. We see clients throughout the week, and we have evening and weekend availability. We do not take insurance, and we have a set rate. For those people where our set rate is not possible, we offer a negotiated rate. This negotiated rate is set mutually between us. We are licensed in Kansas and Missouri, and provide in-person and telehealth therapy to our clients. Lastly, I am able to provide therapy in English and Spanish for those who need it.

Going into private practice has been a rewarding experience, and I am pleased that I have been able to go on this journey along side my wife. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my Great Dane named Maslow, after Abraham Maslow. I love to read, go to they gym, play board and video games, and enjoying time with my family.

If you think we'd be a great fit to work together, I would be honored if you scheduled a brief fifteen minute consultation with me. On this call, you'd get the chance to tell me a little bit about what is going on, you'll get to ask me questions to ensure fit, and I'll tell you a little more about the practice. If we're not a good fit, I promise to give you a referral to someone who with whom you may be. It really is a winning scenario all around.

Thank you for reading this, and I look forward to connect with you. Give me a call or send me an email.
