About me

I specialize in building healthy relationships: helping parents get more cooperation and compliance from their children with less energy; helping couples beat the odds to stay happily married; helping all types of artists connect to their creativity; and in helping all my clients to find solutions that work and make changes that last.

My clients appreciate creativity and honest communication, value our relationship and time together and are hopeful about the future. They understand that true and lasting change comes from within and is the result of patience and concentrated effort - both in and between sessions. The process encourages clients to tell me what is and isn't working in our sessions. You will access your inner strengths and personal resources to achieve the sustained solutions that work best for you, in the shortest time possible, at a reasonable cost.

When you're ready to change, I look forward to helping you live your 'happily ever after'.

Hi, I'm Mike Michnya, a licensed professional counselor, coach, mediator, educator and clinical hypnotherapist.

For nearly four and a half decades, I have dedicated my career to guiding people of all ages and cultures toward positive change, particularly focusing on family relationships. I began my career working directly with substance abusers and their families. I spent the next quarter century leading a program helping the parents involved with child protective services learn to parent safely and effectively. More than a third of those families had teens who were running wild, running the show and running their parents ragged in the process, often as a result of drug and alcohol abuse. Nearly all of those families also had various mental health, substance abuse and addiction issues. The families that had the most success - even the toughest ones - were those who applied the skills we were teaching.

My wife and I used those same skills with our children and saw how well they worked on a personal basis. We made our share of mistakes along the way and our kids are far from perfect, but I’m happy to say that we’ve heard nothing but compliments about them from their teachers, coaches and their friend’s parents over the years. Both have overcome their share of personal challenges to become healthy, happy, intelligent, articulate and responsible young adults.

I’ve learned what works - and what doesn’t work - for kids of all ages with every problem imaginable. including adult children with addiction. I’ve also lost a brother and two nephews to overdose - so I know from personal experience how painful the disease of addiction can be. I was unable to help them, but I’ve been privileged to have helped so many more find solutions that work and make changes that last.
