About me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a specialty focus on trauma. I obtained a certification in Traumatic Stress Studies from the Trauma Research Foundation and PESI, Inc. I am recognized as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional through Evergreen Certifications. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from North Carolina State University.
I have experience working with diverse populations of various socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs. I work with adults (18+). My trauma focus includes counseling persons who have experienced domestic violence, rape/sexual assault, childhood abuse/neglect, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain/illness, and autoimmune disorders. Other areas of treatment include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental health disorders. I work with individuals who are experiencing separation, divorce, grief, and life changes.
I previously worked as Director of Adult, Lay, and Family Ministries at a local church, and was a commissioned Stephen Minister. I provided spiritual nurturing, education, and emotional support to individuals. I briefly served as a volunteer chaplain at a local hospital during my time as a Stephen Minister. I provide spiritual and Christian-based counseling to clients, upon request.
I believe everyone has different responses to therapy and use a holistic, client-driven, strengths-based, eclectic approach to care. I strive to deliver care in a safe, non-judgmental, accepting environment. I consider psychoeducation paramount in learning new ways to manage mental/behavioral health and life challenges. I work with clients to increase knowledge and help them discover new coping skills to enhance their quality of life. I believe in lifelong learning and take great pleasure in reading the latest research about mental health issues to provide the most current care to my clients.
