About me
My name is Lorraine Simmons, and I am an experienced Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I primarily work with adults and teens struggling with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma and grief and loss.
I am a compassionate mental health counselor with a professional background that bridges the fields of education and therapy. I began my career as a teacher working with at-risk teens where I developed a deep understanding of the complex emotional and psychological needs of young people. My journey then took a pivotal turn following the loss of my husband, which inspired me to fill the growing need for grief counselors and also deepened my passion for helping others navigate their own experiences of loss and hardship. I believe everyone can grow from challenges, and I aim to empower and motivate individuals to bring about positive change in their lives. I believe the therapeutic relationship is a key to the success of therapy, and I provide a trusting, safe environment for my clients to discuss their needs and tackle their challenges. I primarily work with adults and teens struggling with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and grief and loss. I am drawn to the modalities of ACT, EMDR, IFS, and Person-Centered, but I vary my approach based on the needs of each client. My clients typically tell me they like my active approach and leave feeling empowered with a renewed belief in themselves and more capable of managing their challenges and creating a more meaningful life.
