About me
I am a career changer who is passionate about helping those suffering from past traumas, challenging relationships, and difficulty living their best lives.
My name is Lonnie Duncan. I am 48 years old. I decided to pursue this career path to help those who are in a similar place as I was: suffering from past traumas, addiction, depression, and those who are discouraged by life's challenges. I found my internal freedom from the Internal Family Systems (IFS) modality. I felt called to share how to mitigate and calm the internal storms caused by our past experiences and/or relationships (family, friends, partners, etc.). I returned to school, finished my undergraduate studies at Colorado State University, and completed my graduate degree at Northwestern University. I completed two trainings in IFS and am IFS informed. I also implement CBT, DBT, and Narrative therapy in my practice. I have developed Internal Parts Awareness Therapy, which is an integrative modality of IFS and Narrative therapy. The modality allows space for our past experiences and honors the parts of ourselves that made it through the experiences. The process delves into the many layers of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and our ability to reframe the experiences into strengths. The strengths are then leaned into to create a fantastic ability to make different choices and change our perception of ourselves and the world around us, by implementing strength-focused techniques to reframe the internal parts' narratives as sources of empowerment. By calming internal conflicts, we pave the way for a fulfilling life and the journey towards self-actualization. The holistic approach allows for self-acceptance and space for a healthy mind-body connection. I utilize body scans, meditation, and breathwork to regulate the internal aspects that are challenging to overcome and sit with. The journey of facing disruptive thoughts and emotions seems daunting; however, nothing changes if nothing changes. I invite you to honor yourself and your past experiences by choosing to delve into the internal parts of yourself and discover hope for your situation.
