About me
As a psycho-oncologist, I support individuals, couples, families and caregivers who are dealing with the stress of cancer.
My patients range across the cancer continuum, from diagnosis, treatment, to survivorship or recurrence and end of life. Diagnosis and treatment of cancer is a major life stress. Cancer care today often provides state of the art biomedical treatment but fails to address the psychological problems associated with the illness. Patients need support coping with a wide range of distressing emotions such as anxiety, depression and confusion. In today’s managed care environment, busy outpatient clinics make it difficult for oncologists to provide psychosocial support for their patients. It can be very helpful to talk to someone like myself, who can work with them to strengthen their own coping skills.
I was trained and then worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering a top US cancer hospital for 10 years before starting my private practice in 2012. Previous to that experience, I had a 20-year career in cancer clinical research which gives me a unique understanding of the disease and its treatments in addition to the emotional response of the patients and their families.
