About me
As a mental health and substance abuse counselor, I join my clients with compassion and authenticity. I am dedicated to helping teenagers and adults uncover the best version of themselves.
Prior to attending graduate school, I provided residential and in-home care to elderly people with dementia. I engaged in this work for many years, as it fostered in me a love of caregiving and integrity to others. In 2019, I obtained my master's degree from Western Michigan University (WMU). There, I pursued an educational track dedicated to Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I successfully completed courses pertaining to ethics, lifespan development, research, and counseling techniques. I excelled in my in-school practicum and two-semester internship. That internship experience involved conducting group and individual sessions with males convicted of sexual offenses. Immediately upon graduation, I worked in two different treatment facilities designed to help people struggling with substance abuse; one of those positions was with teenagers, and the other was with adults. Through this work, I became qualified as a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). I also gained experience with co-occurring disorders, the common occurrence of substance abuse and mental health struggles overlapping. My education, as well my employment opportunities, allowed me to hone my craft of active listening, empathy, and promoting solid rapports with others. I have worked exclusively in private practice, since 2021. This setting is my favorite to work in, as it provides rich opportunities for me to create strong bonds with a diverse clientele and to really see growth and progress. Skills have been developed which allow me to genuinely connect with individuals of all ages and walks of life. Building strong therapeutic alliances with various populations, no matter what is presented in therapy, has been a blessing. I approach therapy with sensitivity, support, and a sense of humor. I strive to align with you and meet you wherever you are in life. I believe you are the expert of your own life, and I will never pretend to know you better than you know yourself. The greatest predictors of successful outcomes in therapy are a secure therapist-client rapport and your commitment and perseverance to improving yourself. Immediately upon scheduling an intake appointment, you may start to feel better, as if a burden has been lifted from your shoulders. The first couple of sessions will typically follow this trend, as you are granted the time and space to open up and release all the pressures you have been grappling with. However, it is not uncommon for therapy to then become more difficult and to feel as though it may be doing more harm than good; this is because you are opening up wounds that you have most likely been covering with small bandages. While not truly damaging, this transition period is when individuals tend to step away, if not truly ready to address everything. However, I believe that exposing your wounds to the air and light means they have nothing else to do but heal. Remaining loyal to the therapeutic process means there is a very high likelihood you will eventually experience a sense of peace, therapy will become more effortless, and you will build internal strength and resilience. I will never claim that therapy is easy, but I 100% stand behind its efficacy. Many clients have shared with me that therapy is their favorite time of the week or that they cannot wait to talk to me in their next session. You must work through the bad to get to the good. None of us were meant to walk this life alone. It would be so humbling for me to accompany you, as you facilitate positive change in your life. Are you ready to overcome addiction, stabilize mental health concerns, and/or feel more competent in making life decisions? If so, please reach out! I very much look forward to working with you! Appointments can be made by directly phoning or texting the patient care team at my company.
